my problem with women in horror films

Posted by captainsmek - 1 day ago

so you know how there are those classic horror films? like woman scared and stuff. my main problem with that is that most times they are terrified at blood, and that doesn’t really make sense to me in some ways. my main point is that women see that literally nearly every month(not that all women get periods) so wouldn’t they be desensitized to the sight of blood? i mean maybe kids but adult and teen women? i don’t think so. i don’t know if this is considered controversial, but i just think it’s silly that women would be scared of that kind of thing, especially if it’s just like a drop of blood, like “oooohh if i saw a single drop of blood i think i would just faint on the sight!”(read in super feminine voice) like no. it just doesn’t make sense, feel free to tell me your opinion on this

So if a woman sees someone else's blood they shouldn't be worried if something happened? My dude as someone who has problems with my own nose bleeds I can tell you that people freak out very easily. Every time they ask me did some one hit me or they cover their eyes in shock because I bleed like a fountain. So no this is a dumb take & I feel like you don't know how much people generally don't actually experience some of the harsher things in life. It is normal, far more normal then screaming at a bug passing by them.

not saying that seeing blood isn’t worrisome, just saying that it shouldn’t have as much of a reaction, i don’t like out a blood curdling scream when i see my own blood, and i don’t think i would be screaming if i saw another person’s blood. this may just be my mindset, but i also got my mother’s opinion on the matter and she had the same opinion. not trying to justify my opinion, just an explanation of it, thank you for your input on the matter.👍

@captainsmek I get it but still people are afraid of things many of us find mundane. But in horror it is a trope & it's mostly to move the plot forward. Like the scream can bring characters to a certain location or signal them & the viewers that something is about to happen. Or even misdirection. It depends on the writer. I get your frustration but it's not illogical for that to happen irl.

i get that, and it’s not exactly frustration, it’s mostly confusion. thank you again for your input on this, i actually didn’t think about it being a way to move the story! thank you for opening my eyes on story writing, though i may still have my issues with it still, i can try to understand it better from a story perspective. 👍
